2006, when Jessie Chang joined the HOMAG Asia team, the branch office in Taiwan was newly formed. 14 years later she is still branch administrator – but what is this job is about, what are were challenges and what did Jessie learnt from this for herself? We asked Jessie Chang. 5 questions – 5 answers.

What do you do at HOMAG and how long have you been on board?

I am the branch administrator in Taiwan. I have been working for HOMAG for 14 years. I started working for HOMAG in 2006. It was my third job after graduation. The experience was totally new to me when I joined HOMAG Taiwan. It was a newly formed company then, many things were not organized. When I started working, there were only 4 people including the branch manager, two engineers and me. We have grown 3 folds and now we have 13 employees including the branch manager, service manager, 6 service engineers, 2 sales representatives, quality manger, and 2 administrators.

It was tough to start something new especially when you have no experience in it. Administration sounds easy but it was complicated in a newly setup organization. There were new problems, new challenges and new conflicts every day. Along the way, I learnt not to be afraid to learn new things, and never be scared to explore all possible solutions. This is how I get here.

What do you particularly appreciate about your tasks?

I would describe myself as a stable person who likes to stay constant instead of facing changes and new things. However, as the company grew, new, initially unfamiliar streams of work, including service support, sales support, and accounting issues, happened every day. I had to adjust and respond quickly. After 14 years, I have become adaptable and I guess more competent to face new challenges now. I think all the unpredictable and unexpected tasks made me who I am today.

What has been your greatest challenge so far?

As mentioned, HOMAG Taiwan was a newly formed company, and I did not have any experience as an administrator then. The greatest challenge was to work alone with very limited support at that time. However, I tried my best to move things and get things done! It made me become a great listener and planner so that I can coordinate and piece all loose and ad hoc portions to paint a better, bigger picture.

How would you describe HOMAG to a good friend?

HOMAG is a global company. Even though we have only 13 people in Taiwan branch, most of my counter partners are located in different parts of the world. All of us work closely as a team. We communicate often although we don’t and may never see the colleagues from overseas. Everyone is nice and easygoing. HOMAG is a good company to work for.

What makes your work at HOMAG special?

I don’t really think my work is special to HOMAG. However, with 14 years’ experience, it indeed boosted up my self-confidence and ability. I am glad to be a part of HOMAG. Thank you!
